the gift series: every friday for as long as i can keep it going, i will be creating a post that i think would make a wonderful gift for someone you know. this is to go along with a new year’s resolution that i made to make almost all of next year’s christmas gifts by working on random gifts throughout the year. this way i will be spreading the spending out rather than going broke at christmas time. i plan on having a variety of projects from sewing, knitting, stitching, and random crafts. some posts will be diy, tutorials or just inspirational photos. i hope that you enjoy the series and find it helpful.
this is a copy of a hat that my sister-in-law bought when she was in korea. i feel instantly in love with it and had to have one.
yarn : 1 skein of patons shetland chunky (148yds) or 1 skein patons classic wool tweeds worsted (220yds)
needles: us 9 and us10
there are two versions of the hat in the pattern. the first version is made all in bulky weight yarn on us9 needles and is soft, squishy, warm and extremely stretchy like the original hat. this would be the black version.
the second hat was made using worsted weight yarn held double on us9 needles for the beginning ribbing and us10 for the rest of the hat. this version is a bit more stiff (because of the nature of patons worsted). if i had chosen a softer worsted yarn i would have gotten a softer hat.
both hats are the exact same size. the yarns just produced different gauges so i provided both versions.
i had a little yarn leftover with both versions.
these are very quick knits if you are looking for a last minute gift idea.
enjoy. pattern can be found via the link above to my design page or in the toolbar at the top of the blog.
